Tips:
Most kinds of nappy rash do not require medical care. In order to treat nappy rash and protect newborns’ skin from additional skin problems you must:
-
Check nappies frequently.
-
Change nappies as soon as they become wet or dirty.
-
Wash the area where the nappy touches the skin using a light skin cleansing product or just water. If the rash is serious, use a spray bottle to clean the area, without rubbing the skin.
-
Use a clean soft cloth instead of baby wipes. The aroma and alcohol contained in many baby wipes may irritate the baby’s skin further, or may make it dryer.
-
Dry the area. Do not rub it. Leave the area where the nappy touches the skin to dry completely before putting on the new nappy.
-
Avoid using baby powder. Products based on corn starch may cause fungal infections. Moreover, when inhaled, baby powder may cause respiratory problems.
